Of course, the fifties wasn't all Rock & Roll, hot rods and I love Lucy. It was the era of Truman and (mostly) Eisenhower and the Red scare! Remember blacklists and Senator Joe Mcarthy? Now class, when you duck and cover to escape the bomb, be careful; you might find a communist hiding under there!

Some teachers looked real panicky when the air raid signal went off! 

I remember having air raid drills in school. When we heard the bell ring repeatedly, the teachers led us out into the hallways where we stood under the yellow and black conelrad sign.
